IT Infrastructure Planning & Services
Infrastructure choices affect how applications run, recover and grow. A useful plan connects servers, networks and storage to the business services they support, including the people responsible for operating them.
Discuss your projectMap infrastructure and application dependencies
An application may rely on identity, name resolution, certificates and shared storage as well as its server. We would document these connections and the business impact of losing them. Existing capacity and workload patterns help establish a baseline. This makes it easier to identify which changes can be isolated and which need a coordinated transition.
Choose capacity and access for the real workload
The design considers normal usage, expected peaks and the room needed for maintenance. Network and account boundaries should restrict access without making routine administration impossible. Configuration records explain how the environment was built. Cost estimates include ongoing resources, licensing and operating effort, rather than presenting the initial hardware or hosting price as the whole investment.
Test change and recovery as separate journeys
Moving a workload requires a plan for data, connections and user access. We agree readiness checks and a response if the new environment does not behave as expected. Recovery arrangements need their own test, including the dependencies required to restore a service. Handover identifies monitoring, maintenance and specialist responsibilities that continue after the change.

Service questions and answers
What needs reviewing before moving an application to new infrastructure?
Map the application, data, identity services and network dependencies, including scheduled jobs and external connections. Record current performance and recovery expectations. A migration plan should explain how each dependency will work in the target environment and how the team will verify the result before retiring the existing setup.

How do we choose between cloud and local hosting?
Compare connectivity, data requirements, existing investment and the skills needed to operate each option. Consider ongoing charges and recovery arrangements as well as the initial setup. The decision can differ between workloads; moving everything to one location is not automatically simpler or more economical for the business.

What evidence is needed before increasing capacity?
Look at the workload when users experience delays, including resource usage, query behaviour and blocked operations. More capacity may help, but it can also conceal an application or configuration issue. Establish representative measurements first, then check whether a proposed change improves the affected journey within the agreed cost and operating limits.

How do we check whether recovery arrangements are usable?
Agree what needs restoring, the information required and who can perform each step. Exercise the process within scope, including identity, network and application dependencies. Record the result and remaining gaps. Redundant resources or backup files alone do not show that staff can restore the complete business service.
