A PC-based data logging system that connects a commercial weighing scale to a computer. It extends the weighing workflow with electronic records, allowing teams to review measurements and organize weighing activity for their operational reporting needs.
The engineering challenge
The data logger extends an existing weighing operation into a computer workflow. Weight readings are acquired through the available scale interface, associated with timestamps and relevant fields, and made available for review. Search, export and reporting follow the software scope. This gives the project a different role from the scale electronics: the scale produces a measurement, while the PC application helps organise the resulting records.
Engineering scope
Acquisition of weight readings through the available scale interface
Time-stamped records with relevant operator or transaction fields
Record search, export, and reports as defined in the software scope
Where it can help
Useful for dispatch, goods receipt, production, and quality teams that need traceable weighing records and less manual transcription.
Project questions
How does the data logger differ from the weighing scale?
The scale measures and displays weight. The logger transfers readings into PC records for review and reporting, according to the available interface and agreed software features.
