# Software Testing & Quality Assurance

Testing should tell the team something useful about release readiness. We focus on important user journeys, integration boundaries and the failures that would make the software difficult or unsafe to rely on.

## Turn software requirements into test scenarios

A statement such as 'the system should be easy to use' needs concrete examples before it can be checked. We agree expected outcomes for real tasks, including invalid input and missing permissions. Business owners help identify critical paths and costly mistakes. The test plan then gives those risks attention instead of treating every screen as equally important.

## Test where components and people meet

Many problems appear between parts that work individually. We check data passing through interfaces, state changes across screens and the response to unavailable dependencies. Representative roles and devices help expose differences hidden by a developer account. Test data is chosen and handled deliberately, with sensitive production information excluded unless its use is explicitly approved.

## Make findings useful for a release decision

A defect report should explain the steps, observed result, expected behaviour and business impact. Fixes need retesting, and important nearby functions may need regression checks. Automation is used for suitable repeatable cases, not as a substitute for investigation. The final record describes coverage and remaining issues so a release owner can make an informed decision.

## Service questions and answers

### How are testing priorities chosen?

Identify the journeys users rely on and the failures with the greatest business impact. Review expected results with the people who understand those tasks, including invalid input and missing permissions. This gives the plan a risk-based order rather than spending equal effort on every screen or measuring quality by test count alone.

### Which checks are worth automating?

Stable, repeatable checks are often good candidates when their results are clear and maintenance effort is reasonable. Exploratory review and changing workflows still need human judgement. The aim is useful feedback on regressions, not the largest script collection. Automation should fit the build process and fail in an understandable way.

### Can we use production data for testing?

Prefer representative synthetic or appropriately prepared data where possible. If real records are necessary, their use needs explicit approval, limited access and a handling plan suitable for the information involved. A convenient copy of production should not become an unmanaged environment with broader access or longer retention than intended.

### What does a test report tell us about release readiness?

It records the conditions checked, observed results, unresolved defects and important areas outside coverage. That evidence helps the release owner make a decision; it does not prove the absence of all defects. A useful report distinguishes a blocked test from a passed one and explains the impact of known limitations.
