# Application Maintenance & Support Services

Applications change even when no new features are added: dependencies, integrations and user needs keep moving. Maintenance gives those changes a controlled path and keeps important operating knowledge current.

## Define your application maintenance scope

We review the running version, source code, dependencies and deployment process. Known defects and unsupported components are recorded before a support commitment is made. The maintenance scope names the covered environments and functions. This helps distinguish a new regression from an existing limitation and avoids promising responsibility for systems outside the team's control.

## Make corrections traceable and testable

An issue needs reproducible evidence where possible, followed by a change that addresses its cause. We check nearby functions as well as the reported failure. Dependency updates are reviewed for compatibility rather than installed without context. Release notes explain what changed and whether users or administrators need to do anything differently afterward.

## Use recurring issues to guide improvement

Repeated incidents can reveal missing validation, fragile integrations or a need for clearer user guidance. We keep those patterns visible alongside routine work. Planned maintenance and larger improvements are prioritised separately with the owner. Documentation, access and recovery instructions are updated as the application changes, so support remains practical for the next person who needs it.

## Project deliverables

- Application support baseline
- Prioritized issue and dependency register
- Tested corrections and release notes
- Updated operational and handover guidance

## Service questions and answers

### How is the maintenance scope established?

Name the covered applications, environments and activities, then record existing limitations before work begins. Incident handling, dependency updates and new features may need different terms. The agreement should identify access requirements, service hours and approval for additional work rather than leave customers assuming every future change is included.

### Should every available dependency update be installed immediately?

Updates need review for relevance, urgency and compatibility with the application. Some require prompt action; others can follow the normal release plan. Check the affected functions and deployment requirements before changing production, then record the installed version and any follow-up needed. Maintenance is controlled change, not indiscriminate automatic updating.

### How do you check that a reported bug has been fixed?

Start with evidence that reproduces the problem or clearly identifies its conditions. Retest the corrected behaviour and examine related functions that may be affected by the change. Record the result and remaining limitations, so closing an issue means there is supporting evidence rather than only a developer's assertion.

### When should maintenance lead to a wider modernization review?

Repeated incidents, unsupported components or changes that become disproportionately difficult can signal a structural problem. Compare the cost and risk of continuing small fixes with focused modernization options. The review should preserve valuable business behaviour and explain the expected benefit before a larger rebuild is proposed.
